Gov. Kemp’s statement:
ATLANTA — Just hours after announcing the first coronavirus death in Georgia, Gov. Brian Kemp issued a call to action for educators, schools and daycares to consider closing as early as tomorrow. He said this is not a mandate, but is encouraging districts to make the best decisions for their own communities. “We must do what we need to do to keep our people safe,” Kemp said.

As we acknowledge the statement by Governor Kemp, GISA is advising all schools to follow the Governor’s recommendation to do what is best for your school and community.

GISA is suspending all academic, athletic, and professional development activities beginning March 14 through Friday, April 10. Every attempt will be made to reschedule non-athletic events when it is appropriate to do so.

For all interscholastic member schools, information concerning athletics will be communicated in a separate email on Friday.

Our goal is to mitigate the risk posed by the coronavirus while maintaining the quality and integrity of instructional and athletic programs.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide you updates as information becomes available.

Respectfully,
Jeff Jackson, Ed.D.

GISA President
